Grinding/Clenching

Grinding and clenching are described as an abnormal muscle activity (parafunction) that occurs unconsciously and usually during sleep. Hence, many people are not aware of it.
Over time it will bring about a dental wear that could be either mild or severe, depending on the muscular strength, age of the parafunction onset and stress, among other factors.
It is common to find tooth sensitivity and tooth fractures, leading to a general loss of the dental vertical dimension in extreme cases, being necessary a prosthetic rehabilitation to recover the lost tooth height.

The force resulting from clenching and / or grinding your teeth can also cause different clinical manifestations.

At the joint level:
1. Pain and / or inflammation of the temporomandibular joint and jaw.
2. Disc displacement of the temporomandibular joint.

At the neuromuscular level:

2. Fatigue and / or stiffness of the muscles of mastication.

At the hearing level:
1. Earache.
2. Tinnitus (ringing in the ears).

At the postural level:
It can cause an imbalance of muscle chains, resulting in body pain (cervical pain, low back, hips, legs, etc.)
